Tools for Teens Workshop – 6 March 2021
The Tools for Teens Workshop is specifically aimed at teenagers between the ages of 13 and 16 to better cope and deal with stresses and current life challenges. In the current uncertain times, teens are dealing with quite different life challenges, stresses and fear.
For them it is constantly like they are driving a car on very bumpy road and they want to keep it on the path to get to their destination. But then external forces and bumps along the way such as immense brain development, the environment, limiting beliefs, hormones, low self-esteem, and well-meaning pressure from peers to be become something or someone that they feel they are not. This all, metaphorically speaking, leads to their car spinning out of control and crashing.
The strategies they will be taught will act as tools to put their car back together, and to change their perspectives of the bumps and to accept them. This time they will have the tools to get to their destination.
What will we cover during the Workshop?
- Stress busting Tools
- Overcoming negative emotions
- “How my thinking and perspective affects me and my life”
- Setting Goals – finding order in the chaos!
- Basic Study Methods tools
- Brain-coherence Tools
- Rhythm therapy session with the use of the African drum
Where: 46 Natalie ave, Murrayfield
When: Saturday 6 March
Time: 09h00 – 13h00
More on the drumming session – The drum produce rhythm which provides structure and focus to the body and mind. It also produces sound waves that can be utilised to either relax, focus or energize. Playing the drum also stimulates Alfa brainwaves which is responsible for a feeling of well-being and calmness that in turn helps with the stimulation of positive emotions. This in tun has a positive physiological effect on the body. The drum coaches the player to listen to themselves on a deeper, personal level.
The drumming session will be facilitated by Juanita Bredenhann from Jembe Drumming Studio. She is a Rhythm Therapy Practitioner and Transformational Life Coach.

Be yourself, everybody else is already taken – Oscar Wilde
I love to assist individuals to become the best ‘them’ they can be and to show them how they can reach their potential.
Even though I am only 21 years old, I have been through many rollercoasters in life that have taken me on an exciting ride called Life. Through many heartaches and tears I am the strong, resilient, and courageous person I am today.
My passion is to assist youth to achieve their fullest potential and know that there is something special inside of them all. In February 2017 I started my journey to becoming a mental health practitioner at South African College of Applied Psychology (SACAP) where I enrolled in the Bachelors in Applied Social Sciences (Majoring in Psychology and Counselling).
My passion grew as I neared the end of my 2nd year. To work with young individuals who experience daily challenges, as well as to teach them how to cope. That is why I am passionate to assist the youth with the skills to learn and study, not only how to learn, but to instil a love for learning. That, I believe, is where the term lifelong learner comes from. It is my aspiration and intention that every individual I meet will continue to see the value in creating their own “why” they need to learn.
