Meet Maryke – Coach, Behaviour Specialist & Transformation Facilitator
Why I Became a Life Coach
My journey to becoming a Life Coach began in 2004. I was reading Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki when an epiphany struck me. I ran to my mother and shouted, “I know what I want to be one day – I want to become a Motivational Speaker!”
For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by human behaviour.
Why do some people thrive under pressure while others slowly become overwhelmed?
Why do intelligent, capable individuals stay stuck in patterns that no longer serve them?
Why do we often know what needs to change, yet still struggle to change it?
These questions shaped not only my academic journey, but also my personal and professional path.
I studied Behavioural Sciences because I wanted to better understand how people think, behave and experience life. My interest later expanded into psychology, emotional wellbeing, stress, behavioural patterns, neuroscience and transformational coaching.
But my passion for this work was not built through theory alone.
Like many people, I have personally experienced seasons of stress, self-doubt, anxiety and feeling disconnected from myself while trying to navigate the pressures and expectations of life. Those experiences gave me a much deeper understanding of what it means to function in survival mode – and how powerfully awareness, emotional understanding and behavioural change can transform the way we experience life.
My Approach
My coaching approach combines:
- neuroscience-informed coaching,
- behavioural science,
- emotional intelligence,
- transformational coaching,
- mindset and behavioural change strategies,
- and practical self-awareness tools to help individuals function more consciously, effectively and sustainably in both life and work.
I believe many people are not lacking intelligence, capability or potential. Often, they are functioning through:
- chronic stress,
- conditioned behavioural patterns,
- emotional overload,
- pressure,
- self-doubt,
- cognitive exhaustion,
- or ways of thinking that no longer support the life they want to create.
That is why coaching is not simply about motivation or “positive thinking.” True transformation happens when individuals begin understanding:
- how stress affects the mind and nervous system,
- how emotional patterns influence behaviour,
- how habits become conditioned,
- and how to intentionally create sustainable change.
My goal is to help people not only perform better – but to feel more aligned, emotionally resilient, purposeful and fulfilled in the process.
Beyond Coaching
Outside of coaching and facilitation, I am deeply passionate about continuous learning, personal growth, psychology, neuroscience, emotional wellbeing and understanding the deeper drivers behind human behaviour.
I am also the co-founder of the Professional Mind Resilience Institute (PMRI), where we focus on developing neuroscience-informed resources and programmes to support especially legal professionals performing in high-pressure environments.
Begin Your Journey
Whether you are navigating stress, burnout, leadership pressure, life transitions or the desire for deeper fulfilment and purpose, coaching can help you better understand yourself and create meaningful, lasting change.
Sometimes transformation begins simply by becoming aware that the way you are currently functioning no longer serves you.
