Why do I want to help people suffering from anxiety? The honest truth, I have been struggling with anxiety most of my life, at first not even knowing that a term such as ‘anxiety’ exists.
While growing up, I just thought that I was extremely shy. I avoided any conversation that might trigger my blushing (which was a curse to me at the time). When I got anxious, I would turn completely red, or get red blotches all over my chest and throat area. (hence me wearing mostly polo-necks as a teen…) I would rather keep to myself than risk the chance of me blushing in a conversation. Not great for a teenager’s social life…
Only much later in my life, did I realise there’s a term for what I was experiencing. Anxiety.
It was only after completing the coaching training program that I was finally free of my blushing. I understood that underneath it all lay deep-seated fears and self-doubt. The moment I resolved the subconscious triggers, I had the courage and confidence to start my own business, do public speaking with ease, and just be confident in every conversation.
Does anxiety creep up from time to time? Certainly. The difference now? I have the tools to deal with it as it comes up. I am now able to peel the layers of subconscious beliefs and fears that get triggered by events, such as the divorce I went through, business uncertainties, relationship triggers, worrying about my kids, etc. I now know how to identify the root causes and use coaching tools to ‘rewire’ my thinking or let go of overwhelming emotions. If you have the right tools, it gives you a sense of control and power over your emotions, and also to take ownership and the ability to deal with them, rather than avoiding them.
That’s why I’m passionate about helping people suffering from anxiety. Because you cannot be happy when you’re anxious, you cannot be successful when you’re constantly worried, you cannot be confident and at ease when you are overwhelmed with stress. Stress and anxiety steal the joy out of life, and it’s not worth it. Life is too short.
Some of these symptoms might sound familiar:
- Excessive worry and irrational fears
- Feeling nervous most of the time
- Constant “knot” in your stomach or burning in your chest

Anxiety can manifest in many ways, such as:
Social anxiety – The fear of being in social situations and being judged by others.
Panic disorder – When you experience recurring panic attacks, even when you do not expect them. Panic disorder also includes the fear of getting a panic attack.
Agoraphobia – Agoraphobia is when a person avoids certain situations and places, in the fear of getting a panic attach. Such an individual will change their behaviour and way of life to avoid such fearful situations.
Phobia – When you have an excessive fear of a specific object or activity.
Separation anxiety – When a person experiences fear of being away from home or a loved one, sometimes resulting in nightmares and physical symptoms such as headaches and stomach aches.
Illness anxiety disorder – This is when an individual has chronic fear about their health and getting a dreaded disease.
Post-traumatic stress disorder – Anxiety experienced after a traumatic event.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder – This is when persistent, intrusive and anxiety-provoking thoughts, images or impulses makes an individual feel out of control which leads to repetitive mental acts or behaviour that the person feels compelled to perform.
